NEW YORK – A boy as young as 3 fell from an apartment building in Harlem on Friday and died in the fall, police confirmed.
The little boy had been jumping on a bed and fell through a window from a fourth floor of the complex, according to his grandmother and police. It was three days before his fourth birthday.
The boy, identified as Daniel Galeas, was found unconscious in the rear of the 40-unit building on 133rd Street shortly before 10:30 a.m. He had injuries indicating that he had fallen from an elevated position, according to police.
Galeas would have turned 4 years old on Monday, October 4.
The listed boy’s home address is blocks away, in an apartment building on 137th Street, according to police. Galeas’ grandmother told our sister station NBC 4 New York that his aunt was babysitting him and other children on Friday morning at the time he fell.
It was unclear if the aunt or any other adult was with him at the time he darted out the window, that he had an air conditioning unit in place, as seen from photos obtained.
Galeas’ mother was working as a security person in the Bronx when the tragedy occurred, the grandmother said.
He was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after emergency crews responded to the call. Police say their investigation is ongoing.
