Telemundo 47 and NBC 4 New York Announce Return of Annual Community Appeal Supporting Our Schools

NEW YORK — Supporting local classrooms in need and benefiting students and teachers alike, Telemundo 47 and NBC 4 New York announced the return of their annual community appeal Supporting Our Schools. Organized in association with DonorsChoose, the appeal begins Monday, November 13 and will continue until #GivingTuesday, Tuesday, November 28. Both stations will match the first $3,000 in donations made through telemundo47.com/escuelas or nbcnewyork.com/schools both on November 13 and 28.

“Our calling Supporting Our Schools is a fully transparent effort from start to finish, detailing what every dollar is spent on and providing timely updates throughout the donation process. You will know when the project is fully funded and when materials are delivered to the classrooms,” said Cristina Schwarz, president and CEO of Telemundo 47. “I am always moved by the thank you notes that come from students and teachers; They really touch your heart. “It is important to give back and support our community, especially the children.”

“Con Supporting our Schools We get new technology, writing materials, books and other important learning materials directly into the hands of students and teachers,” said Eric Lerner, President and CEO of NBC 4 New York. “Our viewers at WNBC and WNJU have donated generously nearly $60,000 over three years, funding classroom projects that benefit more than $58,000 students in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.”

The community appeal is one of Telemundo 47 / NBC 4 New York’s five annual community initiatives that benefit tri-state viewers and their families. In addition to Apoyando a Nuestras Escuelas / Supporting our Schools, these community initiatives include:

Weather Kids / Weather Kids: Classroom weather education program that offers instruction on age-appropriate topics for local students. Since 2017, meteorologists and meteorology experts from Telemundo 47 and NBC 4 New York have taught 112 different sessions in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, from which 7,296 students have benefited.

Alimentando A Nuestras Familias / Feeding our Families: An annual day-long food drive that benefits local food banks during times of great need. To date, 529 tons of non-perishables have been delivered to local food banks through this massive tri-state effort, enough to fill more than 14 tractor trailers.

Vacate The Shelters / Clear the Shelters: Annual pet adoption campaign connecting homeless pets with forever homes and raising awareness about the important work of animal shelters and pet rescues. Since 2015, 95,807 pets have been adopted by families in the tri-state area.

NBCUniversal Local Impact Grants: Offered in partnership between Telemundo 47, NBC 4 New York and Comcast NBCUniversal, the annual grant competition funds tri-state nonprofit organizations that effectively address the needs of their diverse local communities. Since 2018, $1.53 million has been awarded to 37 nonprofit organizations in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
