The messaging service Telegram regularly releases new updates. The latest update is, among other things, about everything that has to do with video functions.
A central innovation concerns the automatic adjustment of the video quality. The app detects the user’s connection speed and automatically selects the optimal quality level to load videos faster. Users can also manually choose between three quality levels: High, Medium and Low.
The Picture-in-Picture function is simplified for iOS users. A swipe gesture upwards is enough to continue the video. Swiping down still closes the video.
In addition, the playback speed for videos can now be controlled using gestures. If you hold on the right side, 1.5 times the speed is activated. This is gradually increased up to 2.5. When you release your finger, the video will play back at normal speed. By the way, Android users can double-tap on the right to skip 10 seconds or on the left to rewind.
Another innovation revolves around the ability to subsequently edit sent messages. Media content can now also be added here afterwards. Edited messages now show a timestamp of when they were last edited. In small groups and private chats, detailed read receipts with times are displayed.
Telegram is also introducing chat-specific hashtags in the format #hashtag@username. These only show posts and stories from the corresponding chat. When entering hashtags in public chats, a menu will appear to quickly add the chat username. Only public posts appear in the search.
Telegram is also expanding monetization options. There are advertising options in bots. From now on, these come with an increased message limit of up to 30 messages per second – free of charge. If you want to send up to 1000 messages per second, you have to pay.
In addition: If you press and hold a reaction to a post (e.g. heart, thumbs up), the exact number of likes, etc. is shown.
