Telegram has brought out its newest feature which allows group voice chat, similar to the feature in Discord.
Telegram recently added a group voice chat feature, similar to the feature in Discord. Reporting from The Verge (24/12), this voice chat feature will always be available, so you can enter and leave group voice chats like those on Discord.
It is known, this feature supports “several thousand participants”, so it can be used for larger groups such as doing live that includes voice chat. This new feature is present at the top of group chats, if enabled it will allow anyone to join the conversation freely.
In the Telegram desktop version for Windows and Mac, you can also use buttons push-to-talk for voice chat to control your microphone input. Telegram has also brought a voice chat overlay for Android, which operates as a system-wide floating widget. This lets you see who is speaking or operating the microphone, and a mute option when Telegram is running in the background.
Currently, the group voice chat feature is focused on audio only. However, Telegram said it would add video and screen sharing features in the coming weeks. Oh yes, please note that you also have to be a group admin to activate the voice chat feature in the group settings menu.
In addition to the group voice chat option, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has revealed that the service is close to 500 million users. It is known that Telegram also plans to monetize its services with an advertising platform. Durov described the platform as “a user-friendly platform that respects privacy, and allows them to cover server costs and traffic”.
