Telegram CEO Pavel Durov detained at an airport in France – French TV channels

Pavel Durov, founder and head of Telegram, which operates the popular messenger of the same name, was arrested by French police after his private plane landed at Le Bourget airport, French TV channels LCI and TF1, part of the same holding, reports.

He was detained by the gendarmes of the Air Transport Gendarmerie as soon as he got off the plane.

A BFMTV source later confirmed the information to TF1.

As TF1 writesDurov was placed on the wanted list due to his lack of evaluation of Telegram and cooperation with law enforcement making him involved in illegal activities taking place on this network, including drug trafficking, child pornography and fraud.

French media write that Durov has French citizenship, as well as Russian. According to them, he knew he wanted and did not avoid visiting France. Sources do not understand why he came this time.

The businessman is said to be from Azerbaijan.

Telegram has not yet commented on reports of the detention of Pavel Durov.
