Telegram now lets users transfer their chat history from other messaging apps, such as WhatsApp, Line and KakoaTalk, to Telegram. The company announced this in a Thursday blog post.
Telegram wants to make it easier for users of other apps to switch. “More than 100 million new users joined Telegram in January,” the company writes. “But what do you do with the messages and reminders you have in your old apps?”
In recent times, Telegram has gained millions of new users. The chat app benefited from hassle around WhatsApp, which is under fire outside of Europe over a new privacy policy. It states that users must agree to data sharing between WhatsApp and Facebook, otherwise they will soon be unable to use the app.
Moving chats to Telegram can be done via an export function in WhatsApp. According to Telegram, the imported chats do not cost extra storage space on a phone, because they are kept in the cloud.
