Telefónica Deutschland wants to increase the pace of LTE expansion. The measures were reinforced in the first months of the year.

Telefónica Deutschland (O2) claims that the LTE expansion rate has already doubled compared to the previous year and wants to continue increasing the pace. In February 2019 alone, there were already 900 LTE upgrades nationwide. On average, around 220 LTE upgrades were carried out per week in the second month of 2019. “Network quality has continued to improve noticeably in many regions nationwide,” the company said.

Compared to the previous year, LTE upgrades are to be increased from 6,700 to around 10,000. This is intended to further increase LTE network coverage both in rural areas and in cities.

According to Telefónica, customers in rural and sparsely populated regions will also benefit from the LTE upgrades in February. Additional frequencies were installed at existing LTE locations in order to increase capacities and speeds. “Within a year, Telefónica Deutschland was able to increase the nationwide LTE data transmission rates of O2 customers with LTE Max by almost 50 percent from an average of 25.9 Mbit / s to now 37.5 Mbit / s”, it says in
