Telefónica continues to expand its O2 LTE network

LTE continues to advance. Telefónica is also working flat out on the new standard and will create more than 2,200 new LTE stations in the first quarter.

LTE has many advantages and is above all the standard when it comes to providing future-proof network technology – such as the 5G standard. With LTE, data rates of 225 Mbit / s (o2), 300 Mbit / s (Telekom) and 500 Mbit / s (Vodafone) can already be achieved. In practice, however, the usable maximum speed depends on the LTE expansion status on site – for example, inner cities often have significantly higher and more reliable data rates than in rural regions.

“We want to further improve the LTE area coverage so that in future our customers can surf the L2 network anywhere with LTE,” says Marcus Thurand, manager responsible for the nationwide LTE expansion at Telefóncia Deutschland. In fact, the provider managed 800 LTE upgrades in March 2019 alone. In the entire first quarter, there were even 2,200. Customers benefited from ever higher LTE capacities and faster speeds. In densely populated regions and along important traffic routes, network capacities have also been increased, the company reports, and in the coming weeks the LTE expansion will continue towards supplying space. In March 2019, Telefónica Deutschland added LTE to existing GSM / UMS stations in the following municipalities:
