Blanca Suárez’s most romantic series tells the story of the relationship between the Marchioness of Llanzol, a woman ahead of her time who had everything – beauty, wealth and social position – and Ramón Serrano Suñer, Franco’s brother-in-law, Minister of Foreign Affairs and one of the strong men of the Regime. They fell in love and lived a clandestine romance in post-war Spain, a time when the Spanish Civil War had devastated the country and when Nazis and allies sought the support of the nation at the dawn of World War II.
The period series, which fans of series like ‘The Bridgerton’ or the series that those who have seen it say is better than ‘Downton Abbey’ will love, consists of four chapters directed by Salvador Calvo (‘Personal reasons‘), with a script by Helena Medina, photography by Felipe Alba and art direction by Marcelo Pacheco. It was filmed in real locations in Madrid, San Sebastián and El Espinar (Segovia). Now Telecinco has decided to broadcast it in film format tonight from 10:50 p.m.

After the end of the Civil War, Spain entered a slow reconstruction process under the iron rule of General Francisco Franco, proclaimed head of state of the dictatorship that had just begun. Alongside him, a man became one of the most powerful and influential in the country: Ramón Serrano Suñer, a minister with a special link to Franco, as he was the brother-in-law of his wife, Carmen Polo.

However, the shadow of scandal could splash his record when he began a passionate affair, as secret as it was forbidden, with one of the most striking figures of the aristocracy of the time. His lover was Sonsoles de Icaza, consort marchioness of Llanzol and one of the most observed and envied women of the elite for her elegance, reinforced by becoming the muse of Cristóbal Balenciaga (who has a series on Disney Plus+). ‘What their eyes hid’ shows, based on the story of the novel of the same name by Nieves Herrero, how the spark arose between them and how they managed their romance in the shadow of public life to avoid scandal, although years later the secret had to be revealed.
