In the network of the mobile communication operator “Tele2”, the deactivation of the obsolete 3G connection begins. 3G will be completely phased out by 2025. the end This change will improve the most commonly used 4G and 5G connection quality. Customers are recommended to change their old SIM cards free of charge, update their devices and view their settings.
The connection is no longer relevant
As in many other countries, in the Tele2 network until 2025 there will be no 3G connection at the end. This change was prompted by the fact that 3G connection is gradually losing its relevance – it has been replaced by more advanced 4G and 5G technologies. First of all, we say goodbye to 3G connection in the municipalities of Rokiškis, Druskininkai, Prienai, and Birštonas.
By decommissioning old technologies, the frequencies they use can be used even more efficiently in 4G and 5G networks. Generally speaking, turning off the almost obsolete 3G connection will make the most used 4G and 5G connections work better.
3G voice and Internet data transmission technology is supported only by older model mobile phones or routers, which are used by only a small number of Tele2 customers in Lithuania. For this reason, the majority of the population will not notice the 3G connection being turned off.
What is important to know?
As the 3G shutdown has already begun, residents are advised to check whether they need to upgrade their equipment. The most important thing is to update old SIM cards. If they only support 3G connection, you will not be able to make calls after turning it off.
If you do not remember the last time you changed your SIM card, you should visit the nearest Tele2 salon or contact the operator. Tele2 will replace old SIM cards for its customers free of charge. In addition, it can become a great opportunity to renew the device you are using, which would allow you to use all the advantages of new communication technologies.
Customers are also advised to check the connection settings on their devices to ensure that the device is connecting to a 4G or 5G connection. After connecting to them, you can use VoLTE technology completely free of charge. It transmits voice not through a normal mobile signal, but through mobile data. As a result, voice quality becomes incomparably clearer, latency is reduced, and the overall user experience during voice calls is improved.
To activate the VoLTE service on Android phones, you just need to update their operating system and the service will work automatically. To activate VoLTE manually on iOS smartphones, go to Settings -> Mobile Service -> Mobile Data Options -> Voice and Data and select the activation function here.
