“The suspect drove the car from south to north, struck pedestrians standing in the mall, and then got out of the car to stab civilians with a sharp object,” police said.
The gunman was from the West Bank and was shot by an armed passerby, police said.
Medics reported treating five injured people. The police said that a total of seven people were injured.
The Israeli army continues a large-scale military operation in the West Bank city of Jenin for the second day. During the operation, ten Palestinians were killed, more than 100 were detained and thousands were forced to leave their homes.
The Palestinian militant group Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, praised the “heroic” attack in Tel Aviv and called it the “initial response to (Israel’s) crimes against our people in the Jenin camp.”
At least 188 Palestinians, 25 Israelis, one Ukrainian and one Italian have been killed this year, according to AFP data compiled from official sources on both sides.
On the Palestinian side, they are fighters and civilians, while on the Israeli side, they are mainly civilians and members of the three Arab minorities.
