TEF: What new benefits does it bring to workers, pensioners, vulnerable people? – 2024-08-02 12:43:41

Packet new measures with benefits to thousands of low pensioners, workers and vulnerable groups is being prepared by the government’s financial staff, in order to be implemented in the new year.

Many of these will be part of the announcements made by the Prime Minister during the opening of the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) with the aim of strengthening the vulnerable.

Special mention will be made to increase in wagesboth in the Public and in the private sector of the economy, while in the autumn there are expected to be changes in the institutional framework in order to strengthen collective negotiations at the sectoral level.

The facilities

The measures under consideration concern the following:

• Salary increases in the State: The increases for 2025 are expected to move to 4.5%-5% with the introductory salary in the HR category ranging from 850 to 892.5 euros, in the DE Category from 928 to 974 euros, in Category TE from 1,107 to 1,162 euros and in PE from 1,162 to 1,220 euros.

• The minimum wage increases in the private sector are expected to be around 4% – 5%. This percentage includes the 2.9% that is expected based on the draft budget to “close” the year’s inflation and 1% from productivity growth.

• 550,000 pensioners who will not be entitled to an increase are expected to receive a personal difference allowance on December 20. It is about 100-200 euros. The allowance will concern pensions from 701 – 1,600 euros and will be scalable.

• Low-income pensioners: The financial support of 150 euros will concern low-income pensioners with income from main pensions up to 700 euros per month (8,400 per year) who did not have a personal difference or if they had it was less than 10 euros.

• People with disabilities, an allowance close to 200 euros as they received last year.

• Minimum Guaranteed Income increased by half of the monthly income support. It will be given on the Christmas holidays to the beneficiaries, while the amount will vary from 216 to 432 euros.

• Uninsured senior citizens. A financial aid of 150 euros is expected to be received by the beneficiaries of uninsured elderly pensioners as well as those who receive the social solidarity allowance of uninsured elderly persons.

• Child benefit. A large increase is expected, especially for those with more than two children. Beneficiaries of the child benefit will be paid an additional extraordinary installment, which corresponds to the monthly granted amount of the benefit increased by half.

• Unemployment benefit. The allowance will be linked to working life. It will consist of a fixed part, which will be received by all those who meet the minimum membership requirement. Its amount will depend on the current legal minimum wage – today the percentage of the allowance amounts to 55% of the minimum wage, 509 euros per month. The variable part of the allowance will be received for a maximum of 12 months only by those who have more insurance conditions and therefore will have contributed more to the insurance system over a longer period of time.

The amount of the allowance will be graduated and depending on the years of insurance – employment, the amount of the salary can reach 1,200 euros which will also be the ceiling for unemployed people who have been in the labor market for more than 4 years.

The duration of the payment of the allowance is expected to be extended and reach up to 24 months, depending on the days of employment. Today, unemployment benefit is granted for five to 12 months.
