At a threatening height: teenagers escape apartment fire
Early on Thursday morning, a drama takes place on the facade of a New York skyscraper. Two teenagers, a 13-year-old boy and an 18-year-old girl, manage to save themselves from the flames in their apartment with great difficulty. One after the other, they climb out of the window and help each other. After all, a pole saves your life.
Spectacular rescue from the fourth floor
The fatal fire broke out around 7 a.m. in just one apartment in the East Village, a district in the middle of the city, as reported by CBS2. Residents record the young people’s spectacular rescue scenes on video, bright orange flames can be seen on the fourth floor. As the smoke continues to penetrate the window, the sirens of the fire engines come closer and closer. The two teenagers choose the only remaining escape route and climb out of the window at a height of more than 10 meters. They help each other hold onto a pole that is attached to the facade. In this way it is finally possible to save her.
In the end, the 13-year-old and the 18-year-old make it down more or less unharmed. According to the police, both suffered injuries, but are otherwise in a stable condition.
After the fire was put out, a man was found in the apartment. He was pronounced dead on the spot. A 46-year-old woman was also rushed to hospital and is in critical condition.
