“Teenager’s Bus Bag Dilemma Sparks Controversy: Is it Rude to Keep Personal Belongings on Empty Seats?”

Jakarta

A teenager confided in his frustration after being reprimanded by other passengers on the bus. He said the warning started with his action of putting a bag on an empty seat.

According to from mirror.co.uk, Tuesday (23/5/2023), a 19-year-old teenager wrote a complaint on a forum on Reddit, which he experienced some time ago. He said when he got on the bus, the bus atmosphere was still quite quiet. He then placed his bag on the chair beside him which was empty at the time. At that time, the passengers were quiet.

He said the bag was very heavy and hurt when I put it on my lap. She said she had tried to put the bag in front of her feet, but it wouldn’t fit.

“I sat on one chair and put my bag on the chair next to me. I used two chairs for me and my bag,” he said.

“Because it wasn’t very crowded at that time, I didn’t see the problem. However, as time went on, more and more people got on the bus and eventually the bus became full, so some people had to stand,” he recounts.

However, instead of moving her bag to make room for another passenger, she placed her bag on the seat instead. He argued that at that time there were no standing passengers who wanted to sit down. According to him, people do not want to sit next to strangers.

“Most of the time, people prefer to stand rather than sit in an empty seat next to someone they don’t know. After all, no one reprimanded me,” he said again.

However, when he arrived at his destination stop, a passenger approached him and reprimanded him. The passenger said that his attitude of not giving up a seat and instead using it to put his bag down was inattentive and impolite behavior.

She said someone aggressively told me ‘you should move your bags and not be so inconsiderate and disrespectful. Everyone wants to sit, not just you.’

“I didn’t respond because I didn’t know what to say,” he said.

“The person who said it never asked me to move my stuff. If they called me out and asked for the chair, maybe I would have done it,” he argued.

Curhatan reap the pros and cons. So far, there are more that are against the opinion of the teenager. There are those who consider the preacher to be impolite and lack empathy.

The teen fired back saying the commenters were even weirder.

“I don’t understand how you can say I’m being rude?” the teenager wrote.

“They could have scolded me or said they wanted to sit for the ride instead of insulting me after the ride was over,” he wrote.

“Buses also generally apply a first-come-first-served rule, so I thought my behavior was normal,” he defended himself.

Other Reddit forum users couldn’t understand the teen’s attitude.

“You don’t have to wait for someone to ask you to do the right thing,” so said a commenter on Reddit.

“After the bus started getting crowded to the point where people were standing, you should have voluntarily moved your bags,” chimed in another.

“You shouldn’t be asked to do it; it’s just common courtesy,” said another.

“When the bus gets busy, you should move your bags voluntarily. It’s a polite act and previously normal bus etiquette,” said another.
