A teenager is killed in a park next to a school in Lower Franconia, and another teenager is arrested that same evening on strong suspicion. This terrible incident shocked the tranquil town of Lohr am Main between Würzburg and Aschaffenburg on Friday. Forensics worked into the night at the brightly lit crime scene near the Nägelsee school center. The body of the 14-year-old student was removed late in the evening. He will probably have an autopsy today.
14-year-old reports homicide
The green area between the bushes between the school center and federal highway 26 serves as a meeting point and retreat for young people during school hours and now at the end of the holidays. On Friday around 4:30 p.m., a 14-year-old reported to the police headquarters in Lohr and reported that he had learned that another young person had been killed at the school center. The police made their way to the possible crime scene and found the 14-year-old there. “The colleagues tried to provide first aid. The emergency doctor who was alerted could only determine that the young person was dead,” says police spokesman Enrico Ball.
Time of death unclear
It was initially unclear whether the injured man was still alive when the officers arrived. The exact time of death will be determined by an autopsy. A police spokesman told BR24 in the evening that the boy had injuries to his upper body. However, he could not or would not say whether these injuries had been caused with a weapon.
Young person arrested on strong suspicion of crime
Evidence of a specific suspect emerged relatively quickly. The police were able to temporarily arrest the teenager from the region – the investigators have not yet wanted to reveal more detailed information – on Friday evening at 6 p.m. in his parents’ house on urgent suspicion. He was questioned by the police throughout the evening. The background to the crime is still completely unclear, says police spokesman Ball. “The suspicion against the young person is so concrete that the public prosecutor’s office in Würzburg has ordered that the suspect be brought before the investigating judge tomorrow (i.e. this Saturday), who will then will decide whether the young person will be taken into custody or not.”
Contact point for parents should be opened
A high school, a middle school and a support center are housed on the premises of the Lohr association. There are currently still holidays in Bavaria, and the news of the teenager’s killing spread quickly on Friday. Residents expressed their horror. The school will probably be occupied on Saturday to give concerned parents a point of contact, said a person in charge. The mayor of the tranquil town with around 15,000 inhabitants, Mario Paul, has also announced that he will probably comment on the incident today.
Parallels to similar events
The case in Lohr is reminiscent of other events this year in which children are said to have killed other children. It was only announced on Tuesday that an eleven-year-old boy was said to be responsible for the violent death of a ten-year-old girl in a children’s home in Wunsiedel, Upper Franconia. She was previously said to have been raped by a 25-year-old burglar. The man has now been charged and has largely admitted the crimes, as the police and public prosecutor’s office announced on Tuesday.
The boy, on the other hand, at eleven years old, is too young to be punished for the crime attributed to him. According to the findings, he strangled the girl after the two children had argued. What this was about remained unclear at first.
But there are other cases: In March, two 12 and 13 year old girls confessed to stabbing 12 year old Luisa in Freudenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia. Both are not yet of criminal responsibility, so there will be no legal proceedings in this case. In addition, a 15-year-old was sentenced to a ten-year youth prison sentence at the end of August for the murder of a 14-year-old in Wunstorf near Hanover.
