Jones and the 15-year-old minor who was with him are members of the Block D team, NYPD revealed. “D Block” means Davidsom Avenue, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said in February.
They were both walking on the train when they observed the 14-year-old boy, a member of the Burnside gang.the authorities stated.
The youngest of them was responsible for a gang-related shooting on January 15 against the Block D gang outside a warehouse on Davidson Avenue, police said and reported Daily News.
In the “chance meeting”, The three minors pulled out their weapons and opened fire from opposite ends of the subway car as the train was entering the station.the officers indicated.
The trio of teenagers continued shooting as they ran toward the platform, they explained.
An estimated 19 shots were fired, hitting six people, most of them innocent passengers.
One of the shots hit Mexican migrant Obed Beltrán-Sánchez, 35, in the chest., prosecutors said. The Hispanic man lost his life at St. Barnabas Hospital. Police have not released which suspect fatally shot him.
Five other people between the ages of 14 and 71 were injured during the incident.
The Hispanic man was sitting on the train and walked out the door when he heard the shooting and was hit by a stray bullet.said the chief of detectives.
“He’s just a gentleman who rides the train,” Kenny said. “He made the mistake of looking towards the platform to see what was happening and he ended up murdered.”
It has not yet been made clear whether the 14-year-old is being charged as an adult or a juvenile.
