A teenager who went to Seoul during the Chuseok holiday and brandished a weapon at a middle school student he saw for the first time, saying, “I will harm anyone,” was arrested. The police, who were dispatched following a report from the victim, middle school student B, checked closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and arrested A, who was at a nearby playground, 20 minutes after the report. Ms. B injured her finger with a weapon, but her life is not in danger. The police understand that there are no other victims other than Ms. B. A, who was interrogated as a suspect (substantive warrant review) before his arrest on this day, was recently found to be undergoing criminal proceedings for another crime. Person A, who dropped out of high school, is known to have a history of mental illness, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Mr. A, who was investigated at the Seocho Police Station in Seoul the day before, is known to have made a statement to the effect that he “tried to harm anyone.” At the time of arrest, Mr. A had three weapons and one blunt weapon. The police revealed that Mr. A purchased the weapon in question at a supermarket in Busan a week before the crime.
