Diane Sweeney from Oklahoma City (USA) died in the summer of 2022. Shortly before her death, she made an unusual request to family members: she wanted anyone who came to her funeral to have the opportunity to win her Volkswagen Beetle. Relatives decided to fulfill the last wish of Diana, who did not have children or a spouse.
The relatives decided to place an ad in the local newspaper, and later television journalists filmed a story about it. Gabriella Bonham heard the story on TV and did not believe the announcement, but decided to go to the funeral anyway.
The teenager left her information to participate in the drawing, but for more than a year she did not receive any news about its results.
As it turned out, all this time the Sweeney family was figuring out how to properly formalize the inheritance and what needed to be done before the winner was announced.
In September, Gabriella found out that she became the owner of a car.
“I didn’t expect this at all. My family and I were on a trip, we were in the hotel when they called me. When I heard this news, I was shocked,” the publication quotes the girl as saying.
Relatives note that the teenager was very grateful for the prize. They also stressed that the car’s previous owner, Diana Sweeney, was always the kind of person who cared about others even after her death.
