Teen who hacked Twitter is sentenced to 3 years in prison

Graham Ivan Clark, the young resident of the US state of Florida who participated in a mass invasion of the Twitter, pleaded guilty to cybercrime and had his sentence confirmed.

He will now serve three years in prison, as well as being banned from using computers without the permission or supervision of law enforcement officials. Since he was 17 at the time he committed the crime, part of the sentence could be served at a military training camp in the country.

Prison time was also reduced, but he ended up on trial as an adult because the state court allows this assessment in case of tax fraud.

Remember the hack

Clark was primarily responsible for hacking Twitter administration systems on July 15, 2020. From a elaborated social engineering scheme, he gained access to a series of verified social network accounts and published scams involving cryptocurrencies, asking for cash shipments and promising rewards such as double returns.

Bill Gates, Joe Biden, Jeff Bezos, Barack Obama and companies like Apple were among those affected. As a result, the social network even prevented verified accounts from posting for a few hours on the platform. In all, the group obtained more than $ 100,000 in payments.

The teenager was arrested two weeks later in Florida. Two other criminals who live in the UK and also participated in the coup have also been arrested and are facing trial.
