After a difficult opening match against German veteran Laura Siegemund, the 19-year-old Gough outperformed Andreeva, the 16-year-old, who is the youngest player in the tournament, to achieve her 13th victory in 14 matches since losing in the first round of the English Wimbledon Championships, the third Grand Slam.
Gauff defeated Andreeva at the French Roland Garros Championship in three sets last June.
“I learned to be aggressive because if you give her something she will take advantage of it,” Gough said.
And she added, “I did a good job today,” praising her competition, saying, “She has a great future ahead of her. I think she will return to these stadiums many times.”
Sixth-ranked Gough, and one of the players nominated to compete for the title, especially after winning the Washington and Cincinnati tournaments by defeating world number one Polish Iga Schwentek in the semi-finals of the last round, will meet Belgian Elise Mertens or her compatriot Danielle Collins in the next round.
