Teen Killed in New York Subway Surfing Incident Identified by Police

Two days after the fateful event, the New York Police revealed the identity of the victim. According to witnesses, he was hit by another train that was coming on the opposite track. It happened near the stop on Avenue N, between the Borough Park and Midwood neighborhoods.

That same Friday, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) detailed that the minor’s death occurred when he was trying to surf, a dangerous technique that has killed several young people.

“Surfing on the subway kills”

“What happened today is heartbreaking and our thoughts are with the teenager’s family,” Richard Davey, president of New York City Transit, said in a statement.

“ Surfing at Subway kills. I implore parents to talk to their children. To teachers with their students. “It is an absurd and lethal practice,” she indicated.

In 2023, at least five people died from climbing on top of moving train cars. A total of 450 jaywalkers were seen traveling outside cars, including on top, in the first six months of last year.
