Parents of a 13-year-old boy in Hamburg have to dig deep in their pockets because of a ‘joke’ the teenager played in June. He then threatened to ‘attack’ his school in the east of the city via his cell phone for fun. Alerted police evacuated the school building, cordoned off streets around the property and sent a helicopter into the air.

It soon became clear that there was no attack and that it was a botched joke. On Tuesday, the police declared that the parents of the boy must pay for the costs as stipulated by law. They now have to transfer more than 45,000 euros to the force, according to German media.
