A 16-year-old man behind the wheel of a minivan died early Saturday after a chain reaction crash caused the vehicle to flip and eject the driver, authorities said.
Investigators said the minivan was traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided with a vehicle on the Belt Parkway around 2 a.m.
That’s when the teen driver lost control of the minivan and collided with a second vehicle, causing it to flip over, according to New York City Police.
The 16-year-old driver, who was ejected from the minivan, and the four passengers inside were taken to Lutheran Hospital. All four passengers suffered minor injuries.
Police said the driver ultimately died at the hospital. His identity has not been revealed.
The person driving the second vehicle involved also received treatment for a minor injury, authorities added.
The investigation is ongoing.
