British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that England will enter a second quarantine starting next week, after the United Kingdom surpassed one million cases of coronavirus.
–
The quarantine is scheduled to last a month and to take effect next Thursday, according to what Johnson explained in a press conference on Saturday night.
–
“We must act to contain the increase in the autumn,” said Johnson, who at the beginning of the pandemic was one of the world leaders who tended not to give it too much importance, but who after passing through an intensive care room when he was infected with covid-19 , has become more careful about the problem generated by the still uncontrollable virus.
–
The closure plan was due to be announced on Monday, but the government chose to advance it after the news leaked to various media outlets the day before.
–
With the measure, all pubs, restaurants and businesses considered non-essential, such as hairdressers or gyms, will have to close their doors again. Schools and universities will continue to be active.
–
Citizens living in England will only be able to leave their homes for specific activities, such as going to work, shopping for groceries or medical appointments, and for some outdoor recreational activities.
–
The measure does not include other parts of the UK (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) that run their own healthcare systems.
–
On Friday France entered a new quarantine, which is also estimated to last four weeks, although the restrictions will be less rigid than those that governed the spring closures.
