Teddy Bear Tricks Tesla’s Full Self-Driving System: Unmanned Mode Exploited

A beta version of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) autonomous driving system in Tesla cars allowed a teddy bear to drive a car.

What is known

Tesla vehicles with the FSD package are equipped with software that does not allow the use of unmanned mode if the driver is not keeping an eye on the road. However, YouTuber AI Addict was able to fool the security system with a variety of inanimate objects, including balloons with faces and stuffed animals.

To fool the Tesla camera, it is enough to put a teddy bear in the driver’s seat. AI Addict claims that he was able to drive on a closed road for a full 10 minutes, after which the test was completed ahead of schedule. The car was never able to detect the toy behind the wheel.

Also in the experiment involved a dummy of a child who crosses the road. Each time during the test, the unmanned Tesla hit a theoretical pedestrian while a toy was driving.

The test results were confirmed even with a balloon. The car activated the unmanned mode without any problems and knocked down the child’s dummy over and over again.
