WEEI Unveils New Afternoon Show Featuring Ted Johnson, Andy Hart, and Nick “Fitzy” Stevens
Less than five months after WEEI announced a major shakeup, the Boston radio station is making more lineup changes. As the station’s afternoon show continues to struggle against 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Felger and Mazz, WEEI is rolling out a new trio for the afternoon.
The new show will feature three-time Super Bowl champion Ted Johnson, who previously worked with Rich Shertenlieb on 100.7 WZLX, alongside Andy Hart and Nick “fitzy” Stevens.
“I had the good fortune of playing on some incredible teams in my 10-year career, and now, 30 years later, I’m thrilled to announce I’ll be a part of another great team at WEEI,” Johnson said in a statement. “I’ll never take for granted the relationships I’ve formed and the awesome experiences I’ve shared with the fans here, and I look forward to strengthening those connections through the WEEI airwaves.”
The previous WEEI afternoon show, hosted by Hart and Christian Arcand, will see Arcand moving to nights on the station.
WEEI’s morning and midday shows will remain unchanged, with the “Greg Hill Morning Show” and “Jones & Keefe” continuing their runs.
WEEI announced the new lineup on January 14, 2025, via Twitter, stating, “We are excited to announce that 3x Patriots Super Bowl champ Ted Johnson is joining WEEI as part of our new afternoon show!”
Fitzy, who joined WEEI in the summer of 2019, has hosted various shows at the station, including “The 6 Rings Postgame Show” with Hart after every Patriots game.
“Ted not only hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy 3 times as a Patriot, but he also played alongside new Patriots Head Coach Mike Vrabel,” said Mike Thomas, senior VP and market manager of Audacy Boston. “After his playing days, Ted honed his broadcasting skills in Houston and back here in Boston. He has entertaining stories and valuable data that all Boston sports fans won’t want to miss.”
Thomas added, “Fitzy has been an asset to the station and we’re excited to expand his role to ‘WEEI Afternoons’ with his knowledge as a die-hard Boston sports fan.”

WEEI’s New Afternoon Show: A Game-Changer for Boston Sports Radio?
In a bold move to revitalize its afternoon programming, WEEI has announced a new lineup featuring three-time Super Bowl champion ted Johnson, alongside Andy Hart and Nick “Fitzy” Stevens. This shakeup comes as the station aims to compete with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s dominant afternoon show, Felger and Mazz. To unpack the importance of this change, we sat down with sports media analyst and Boston radio expert, Mark Thompson, to discuss what this means for WEEI and its listeners.
Mark, thanks for joining us. WEEI has made some significant changes to its afternoon show. What’s your take on the addition of Ted Johnson to the lineup?
Thanks for having me! Ted Johnson is a fantastic addition to WEEI’s afternoon show. His credibility as a three-time Super Bowl champion and his experience in broadcasting, both in Houston and Boston, make him a valuable asset. He brings a unique perspective as someone who’s been in the trenches of the NFL and has a deep connection with Patriots fans. Pairing him with Andy Hart and Fitzy creates a dynamic mix of expertise and fan-driven commentary.
WEEI has been struggling in the ratings against 98.5 The Sports Hub. Do you think this new lineup can turn things around?
It’s definitely a step in the right direction. The Sports Hub has had a stronghold on the afternoon slot for years, but WEEI is making a concerted effort to shake things up. Ted Johnson’s star power and Fitzy’s deep knowledge of Boston sports could resonate with listeners. However, it’s not just about the hosts—it’s about the chemistry and the content. If they can deliver engaging, insightful, and entertaining discussions, they have a real shot at closing the gap.
What about the decision to move christian Arcand to nights? How does that fit into WEEI’s strategy?
Moving Christian arcand to nights is an interesting move. It allows WEEI to strengthen its evening programming while giving the afternoon show a fresh start. Arcand is a talented host, and his shift could help the station maintain a strong presence throughout the day. It’s all about balancing the lineup to appeal to different audiences at different times.
Fitzy has been with WEEI since 2019 and has worn many hats at the station. How do you see his role evolving with this new show?
Fitzy has been a versatile and reliable presence at WEEI, and this new role is a great chance for him to shine. His passion for Boston sports and his ability to connect with listeners make him a perfect fit for the afternoon slot. I think we’ll see him take on a more prominent role in driving the conversation, especially when it comes to breaking down games and analyzing team performance.
what do you think this means for the future of WEEI and Boston sports radio as a whole?
this move signals that WEEI is serious about competing in the Boston sports radio market. The station is betting on a combination of star power, local expertise, and fan engagement to win back listeners. If they can execute this vision effectively, it could lead to a more competitive landscape, which is ultimately good for listeners. It’ll be engaging to see how this plays out over the next few months.
