Technology from Paris – NERD has developed important components for Super Mario 3D All-Stars – ntower

Unknown to many, exists in Paris a company called Nintendo European Research & Development, NERD for short. This does not develop games, but does important technology for Nintendo products. Face tracking with a 0.3 MP camera for super-stable 3D on Nintendo 3DS is just one of the impressive achievements of the small branch of the video game company. Now, NERD has revealed that they are also on the blockbuster Super Mario 3D All-Stars were involved. That’s how it comes from GameCube-Emulator, which was used in Super Mario Sunshine, from Paris. Behind this is impressive technology. The Game Cube used an old but really powerful microprocessor that is very different from the built-in parts of the Nintendo Switch. A large number of optimizations were necessary in order for the game to run smoothly. But that wasn’t all. The 16: 9 mode and the compatibility with the Joy-Con were also developed by NERD. The pre-rendered cutscenes were made with a Deep Learning Engine, which was developed by the company itself, improved in high definition.

By the way: NERD didn’t just work on Super Mario Sunshine. The graphics and audio emulation also arose from the studio’s technology. You can find more information about the team from Paris in a special with us here read up.

We are looking forward to the next NERD project. And you?
