Friday February 2 around 10 a.m., firefighters from Saint-Martin-Lestra and Feurs intervened on the Place des Godelons in Saint-Barthélemy-Lestra.
On this market day, there was initial incomprehension, because there was nothing to indicate an accident. In fact, it was up in the bell tower that it happened. A technician from the Horloge Plaire SA company in Saône-et-Loire was the victim of a work accident while coming to adjust the bell ringing.
A three meter high fall
After a long spiral staircase, the technician had to climb a wooden ladder to access the bells. A loud crack from the ladder in question caused him to fall from the top three meters of this perch.
However, the technician managed to contact his company, which immediately called the nearby town hall secretariat. Patricia, the secretary, went to find the employee, conscious but on the ground before alerting the 18th.
The emergency services intervened quickly and the firefighters took the injured man on their shoulders to go down the very narrow steps of the bell tower, the only way to take him to the ambulance below. The man was transported to the North hospital in Saint-Priest-en-Jarez.
