Cyberpunk 2077 lead quest designer Pavel Sasko in an interview YouTube-channel TheNeonArcade spoke about the technical difficulties that the authors encountered when developing the sequel.
The main challenge for the creators so far has been the transition from the engine RED Engine on Unreal Engine 5. TeamаCD Projekt RED It’s not the first day it’s been working with UE5, but the authors are still figuring out some of the engine’s features, since some RED Engine tools were specifically tailored to the needs of developers.
And now the authors just need to do a similar operation with UE5 so that the engine meets all the tasks for creating their new games. At the same time, Sasko added that the advantages of Unreal Engine 5 are “obvious,” although he did not go into specific details about this.
Collaboration with Epic became a new difficult experience for the studio, but at the same time an honor. Epic has a lot of experienced engineers who can teach the CD Projekt RED creators a lot of useful things. However, Sasko added that the studio still has a lot of work to do in this direction.
Sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 under working title Orion is still at an early stage of development. Some of the original authors, by the way, have already moved to the studio’s new office in Boston to work on the sequel.
And previously art director of the add-on Phantom Liberty said that in the sequel the games could recreate some unrealized ideas of the add-on.
