Oliver McKenzie from Digital Foundry presented another technical analysis. This time the specialist tested RoboCop: Rogue City on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles, and at the same time compared the versions with each other.
The expert noted that the shooter Nacon and Teyon is one of the few games that most successfully uses the Unreal Engine 5 and its features on the current generation of systems.
The older PS5 and Xbox Series X offer two modes: “Quality” and “Performance”
PS5 in “Quality” is rendered at 1440p, and then upscaled to a higher value, Series S, on the contrary, is drawn at 1080p, and then scaled to 1440p – the final picture is slightly sharper on the Sony console
In Performance mode, both consoles run at 1080p with upscale to 1440p
Series S – no modes, runs at 1080p with upscale to 1440p at 30 FPS
Performance on both consoles is decent, with “Quality” running at 30 FPS; in “Performance” there are drops in frame rate – in intense battles it can drop to 30 FPS
There are stutters when moving around the world, on PS5 in some places FPS is about 10 frames per second lower than on Xbox Series X
Older consoles received a full set of UE5 features, including Lumen, Nanite and virtual shadow maps – the final picture is impressive with accurate lighting and beautiful reflections
In the “Performance” mode, Unreal Engine 5 effects slightly lose quality, but this has almost no effect on the overall picture
On Series S, the engine features are only partially present – there are no Lumen reflections, global illumination is of lower quality, virtual shadow maps are severely cut
There is a bug with loading asphalt textures on Xbox Series X|S
RoboCop: Rogue City available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game received positive reviews from players and the press.
