Techland Introduces Premium Currency to Dying Light 2: Fans React with Criticism

Developers from the Techland studio have added premium currency to Dying Light 2 in the latest update. As you can surely understand, it is intended to serve as a means of microtransactions, which already worked to a certain extent, but outside the game’s own environment. Until now, players mostly bought cosmetic packs with real money, so there was no extra transaction and everyone paid the same, just converting the pack’s value to the country’s currency. However, Techland decided that introducing an in-game store and so-called DL Points would be a better option, and players immediately understood why. As it turned out very quickly, the packages are priced so that their price does not exactly correspond to the amount in which DL Points are sold, so players have to buy more points and after the transaction for one package, they have points left over. Of course, the community does not like this and immediately began to point out the greed of the developers and subjected the decision to sharp criticism.

“Our in-game store is up and running and offers several skin packs to customize your character’s appearance. Get skins for characters without having to interrupt the action,” the developers described the launch of the in-game store. As a gift, they gave all players 500 DL Points and let them into the catalog. However, many of the better packs cost more than that 500 DL Points amount, so players have to purchase points or simply not use them. So, the closest you can get to the amount you could buy a bundle of 750 DL Points is to buy 1,100 points for the equivalent of $10. Therefore, in the comments on Twitter and other social networks, fans began to write that instead of inventing microtransactions, the developers should work on something more meaningful, for example, the next major DLC that has been promised for a long time.

However, the fact is that the developers from Techland clearly do not want to “test” their community too much and therefore issued a statement, that this is only the first iteration of microtransactions, which will still undergo a change. The developers want to respond in particular by making it possible to buy partial parts of packages for lower amounts in the future, which are suitable for spending the remaining DL Points. And the fact that there are already 6 smaller packages available for 500 DL Points and below, including the apparently popular chicken skin, certainly cannot be left out. Even the developers mention it in response to criticism, stating that players will be able to freely combine different packs into each other and feel a great deal of freedom in how it will be their game look. It’s just that it will take some time, according to Techland.
