Tech platform Tweakers starts test with premium articles / Villamedia

Tweakers, the largest technology website in the Netherlands, started testing premium articles on Tuesday. Users who are logged in will have access to additional articles, which are published on top of the existing news items and product reviews.

“If Tweakers wants to exist for decades to come, advertisements are no way to keep doing that,” said Tweakers journalist Arnoud Wokke on Twitter. “The era of the web with free journalism is coming to an end; we will have to have paying subscribers. That is why we start with premium. ”

Working with subscriptions is not new to Tweakers, according to a message on the website, announcing the arrival of premium content. In recent years, the tech platform has offered readers various extras, including a magazine (which will be defunct after this year), promotions, priority ticket sales for events and subscription days.

“The aim of Tweakers is to offer more with subscriptions. As part of that commitment to add value, we now want to test a subscription around editorial articles, ”the editorial team writes. With the extra articles, Tweakers wants to explore and explain developments in the field of tech.

Initially, users with a profile on Tweakers get free access to the extra articles. Only later will they become available only to paying subscribers. The test period is expected to last two to three months.
