Tech: Musk removes voting privileges on Twitter from non-paying users

Twitter users without a paid Blue subscription will no longer be able to vote in polls from mid-April. Also, their tweets no longer appear in the For You list.

In de For Youlist contains tweets that may be of interest to a Twitter user. These are messages from Twitter users that resemble accounts that a user already follows.

Soon, only tweets from paid accounts will be in that list. According to owner Elon Musk, that is “the only realistic way” to spam from Twitter robots to stop.

Non-paying Twitter users will also no longer be able to vote in polls from April 15. That may be due to the results of Musk’s own poll in December. The billionaire then asked whether he should step down as CEO of the social media company. Of the 17.5 million voters, 57.5 percent said yes. Musk later blamed Twitter robots for that.

Musk has tried several times in recent months to limit the number of Twitter robots. He has also used them as an excuse to take certain measures. He usually does this without proving that the bots actually pose a problem.

According to critics, the new step seems to be intended to sell more subscriptions. When taking out such a Twitter Blue subscription, it is already stated that paying subscribers will “be at the top” in lists of comments and in searches. Banning non-subscribers from the For You list is therefore the next step.
