Tech CEOs Join US Government’s AI Safety Council to Protect Critical Infrastructure

The CEOs of several major technology companies are joining the US government’s Artificial Intelligence Safety and Security Council. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai are among these technology leaders. A new federal advisory board will focus on the safe use of AI in the United States’ critical infrastructure.

The newly established Federal Artificial Intelligence Council will work with and advise the Department of Homeland Security. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang is also one of two dozen technology and business leaders joining the federal AI Security Council. Delta Air Line CEO Ed Bastian and Northrop Grumman’s Kathy Warden were also confirmed as board members. The Wall Street Journal reports that the federal AI council also include academics and civil rights leaders.

The Biden administration announced a federal AI safety board last year

The Artificial Intelligence Safety and Security Board, or AISSB, was announced by the Biden administration last year.
