Al-Akhbar (Nouakchott) – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune discussed, today, Sunday, by telephone with French President Emmanuel Macron, bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them.
And the Algerian presidency announced, in a statement issued by it, that Tebboune will visit France in the second half of next June, after the visit was expected in May.
The statement added that “work is ongoing and continuous between the teams of the two countries to make the visit a success,” which will come 10 months after Macron’s state visit to Algeria.
Today’s call between Tebboune and Macron comes after a diplomatic crisis between the two countries that arose last February, against the background of the French consulate’s assistance in Tunisia, Algerian-French activist Amira Bouraoui, to travel to France.
The two presidents announced a few weeks ago that this crisis had been overcome, and they “agreed to strengthen communication channels” in order to “prevent the recurrence of this kind of unfortunate misunderstanding,” according to the Elysee.
