Teatro Esquina Latina presents a book about its artistic experiences – Cali – Colombia

Since its inception, the Teatro Esquina Latina has been committed to building more viable and just societies through its community theater program. Its director, playwright Orlando Cajamarca, defines this fight as a ‘theatrical stubbornness’ that in 2023 will complete 50 years.

During that time, the Caleño theater, through its community work, has played a role in contributing to generating processes of peace and coexistence.

Under the leadership and authorship of the actress and social psychologist, Lucenith Castillo Ramos, the book ’48 years of theatrical stubbornness: a journey through the community theater practice of the Teatro Esquina Latina’ was created.

The Caleño Theater is also known for presenting works of a community nature, where attendees reflect on issues that affect their communities.

Castillo, who is also the field coordinator for the program ‘Youth, theater and community’ of the Caleño theater, explains that this publication contains the process of systematizing the practices and knowledge of Esquina Latina in the region, from its beginnings in 1973 to today in day.

“This book makes reference, in four chapters, to relevant aspects that allow us to understand the developments of this practice from the voices of its protagonists: ’48 years: a bet on lives, from and for theatrical art’, ‘The practice Community theater: a look from theater animators’, ‘Forum theater as an exercise in memory in the peripheries’ and ‘Learning’”, explains Castillo.

Paola Andrea López, Victoria Giraldo and Gustavo Silva also participated as co-authors in this book, with the accompaniment and advice of Marcela Pardo from CINEP, and with the general advice of Orlando Cajamarca and Luz Nohemy Ocampo.
