“Teatrino”, a mobile theater project for children from Oaxaca, begins its journey in Ixtaltepec

Juchitán de Zaragoza, Oaxaca.- The project of mobile theater “Teatrino”, from the young producer Jesús Carranza, started in the town of Asunción Ixtaltepec in order to alleviate a little the confinement of people due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Director Jesús Carranza raised the iron curtain of his mobile theater at 6 p.m. on Tuesday before a large group of children, who, accompanied by their mothers, enjoyed the puppet show in front of the home of the producer’s sister. .

The show lasts between half an hour and 45 minutes and takes place with the participation of five characters puppetry: Don Chuy, The turtle, The mouse lady, Doña rabbit and The lion man. They all go on stage narrating three fables: “The mouse and the lion”, “The hare and the tortoise” and “The three little pigs”, in the latter the play recalls the value of companionship and solidarity.

Jesus Carranza he set up the little theater with all its parts on a food cart that his sister once used to sell scraps. The vehicle was equipped in a period of two months with a stage, lights and sound, in addition to the puppets that the artist himself created with Don Chuy as the main character, who is the one who interacts with the children.

The juchiteco, who has a degree in acting from the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo, promotes in Juchitan the independent theater from its space La Libélula, where it also gives workshops to children and young people that stages works with a community sense.

As a result of the health contingency, it closed its space located in the Fifth Section of Juchitán and, given the lengthening of the restrictive measures, decided to take the theater to the streets under the modality of a theater with wheels hitched to a pickup truck.

This project does not receive funding from any institution, only from the theatrical proposal La Libélula. The presentations are free and the mobile theater started in Ixtaltepec, then it will continue with other communities such as Juchitán, in all its sections.
