Tears at Klaus Schmidt: Emotional interview after Admira-Aus – football

Emotional interviews with clear statements are a rarity in the football business. The interview with Noch-Admira coach Klaus Schmidt after the 1-1 draw against SCR Altach is all the more remarkable.

Only a few weeks ago he was brought to the southern part of the city as a “firefighter”, but Schmidt mastered the “mission” to stay out of the league one match day before the end of the season with flying colors. Only to then find out a few days later that the club will not extend the expiring contract and will more or less call the trainer out for the second time.

Reasons to properly “let off steam” would have been enough – Schmidt decided against this step in the “Sky” interview after the game and, overwhelmed by his emotions several times, spoke rather “of one of the most beautiful moments that I had as a football coach so far. “

Logically, this did not mean the separation from Admira, but the courageous appearance of his emergency team against Altach. More than ten players tested positive for the corona virus during the week, and the match against Vorarlbeger was on the brink for a long time.

Her coach received a remarkable farewell from “six or seven boys” who, according to their coach, “were only born yesterday”.

Point gain and “seven babies”

Because of the numerous failures, seven youngsters had to be pulled up from the in-house academy into the matchday squad. Schmidt threw two of them into the deep end right from the start, and four more were substituted on during the game.

Not an everyday occurrence, as the coach said after the game. “The boys worked extremely well and when you see that seven babies were born today and have their pictures taken in there with the Bundesliga address”, and after a short pause added: “This is football.”

One of the babies mentioned, Paul Koller, will remember the day in a very special way. After graduating from high school in the morning, he went straight to the green lawn. After the game, he made it clear what had priority for him: “Matura is also important, but the Bundesliga comes first.”

Schmidt successor with a stable smell?

According to President Philip Thonhauser, Admira wants to build on players like Koller again in the future. No expensive old stars but the way through your own youth should be the future motto.

This is how Thonhauser roughly described the job profile of the new Admira trainer. The new man should definitely know the club and the team and possibly even have a stable odor.

In any case, Schmidt did not meet the requirements mentioned and only found out from the club that “you want to try something new. But that is also a right and the deal.”

It came as little surprise to him that the expiring contract was not extended. “On the one hand, you have to say that I actually expected the club management not to think about signing me again. Right from the start, there were clear signals that I have a job here and that I want to keep the league. That’s me thanks to this great team. It was a great time for me, even if, and unfortunately, it has to be said, it was only a very short time. “

“Football coach is the coolest job in the world”

Shortly after the final whistle, he could not answer how things were going for Schmidt that he was not thinking of giving up despite the setbacks, but he made it clear.

“I just want to say that I am passionate about this job. And maybe someday it will fit that I have the opportunity to work longer. It’s the coolest job in the world. That’s why I do it, that’s why I love it.”

After the end of the game, the coach was said goodbye to his remaining players, who celebrated him standing in the trellis. Those actors who had to stay in their four walls due to the quarantine regulations could not be there. For this, the ex-trainer addressed her with emotional words.

“The most tragic thing is that today I can ‘only’ say goodbye to one team that I have only been through with 10 boys in the last few weeks. The other six or seven boys were ‘born’ yesterday others are sitting at home and hopefully watch the interview. I just want to say to them: Thank you and I love you. I can say that, because I can’t get any more together, “he said and pulled away, overwhelmed by his feelings .
