From Sunday 20 November to Sunday 18 December it will be staged in Qatar the first winter World Cup (at least in Europe and a large part of the world) in the history of football and the first in the Middle East. There is no Italyas in Russia four years ago, but in the Arab peninsula there are many champions (also from our Serie A) competing for the trophy. the last 32-team World Cup: from the next edition (in 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico) there will be 48 participating national teams.
The participating teams
The 32 World Cup teams were divided into 8 groups from 4 national teams each facing each other in an Italian group. The top two in each group advance to the round of 16 which opens the knockout stage: 64 matches in total in the tournament.
The dates of the first phase of the World Cup
The World Cup begins November 20th at 5pm Italian time with the opening match Qatar-Ecuador, preceded by the opening ceremony of the event scheduled for 3pm. The group stage continues from the following day, with matches every day until Friday 2 December.
The dates of the second phase of the World Cup
The round of 16 is scheduled for December 3-6 (two matches per day), the quarter-finals on the 9 and 10 (two matches per day), the semi-finals on the 13 and 14, the third-place match on the 17th and the final on the 18th.
Qatar times and time zone
Compared to Italy, Qatar is two hours ahead. There are four time slots identified by the organizers. The matches of the first two days of each group will be played at 11, 14, 17 and 20 (Italian time), while those of the last day (from 29 November to 2 December) will be played at 16 and 20 Italian. with the matches of the teams in the same group scheduled at the same time. And 4 and 8 pm will also be the times for the matches in the knockout phase, with the final scheduled for 4 pm on Sunday 18 December.

The stadiums of the World Cup
All the World Cup matches will be played in 8 (brand new and air-conditioned) stadiums all quite close to each other, with the final scheduled at the Lusail National Stadium (80,000 spectators), in the area of the Formula 1 and MotoGP circuit. The inaugural match will be played at the Al-Bayt Stadium, the 60,000-seat facility built in the shape of a Bedouin tent. World records

The best attack in a single edition of theHungary who, in 1954, scored 27 goals in 5 games. It was an edition full of goals, with the 7-5 of Austria-Switzerland (the match with the most goals in a World Cup) and the 9-0 of Hungary-Korea which, together with the 9-0 of Yugoslavia-Zaire in 1974 and to the 10-1 draw of Hungary-El Salvador in 1982, the largest victory in the competition.
