Luna Rossa and Team New Zealand are still tied at 3-3 after Saturday’s two America’s Cup races which saw each sailboat win a round.
The Italian challenge won race five, thanks to a 22-second advantage at the first gate and remained virtually unchanged thereafter. Luna Rossa finished 27 seconds ahead of the New Zealanders.
In the sixth race, on the contrary, Team New Zealand was able to quickly take the lead. The defending champions passed the first gate with a 51-second lead, and finished 1 minute 41 before the sailboat from Jimmy Spithill.
The Kiwis, three-time winners of the famous regatta (1995, 2000, 2017) and big favorites, still cannot distance the Italian team in the standings.
Luna Rossa aims to be the second European team to win the Silver Ewer, after the Swiss union Alinghi in 2003 and 2007.
The first team to 7 wins wins the Cup.
