Team 2021/22 stands – SVG Lüneburg

Better outside attack than Libero

Tim Stöhr completes the squad as an all-rounder

The last piece of the puzzle has been found and fits perfectly into the overall picture: As the 12th and last player, Tim Stöhr has now signed a contract with the SVG. The 24-year-old is an outside attacker, but can also play other positions. And he already has a lot of top division experience from five years with the volleyball bison Bühl.

Tim Stöhr became interesting for the SVG because he can be used universally, and when Bühl withdrew from the Bundesliga, nails were quickly made. From 2013 to 2016 he got his sporting skills from the YoungStars Friedrichshafen, the Häfler’s junior team in the 2nd division, where he was temporarily also captain. With the boarding team, he also became German U20 champions in 2014 and 2015. In his first season in 2016/17 in Bühl, the right-hander helped out as a sweeper.

Good acceptance influences unusual careers

When the Argentine Tomas Ruiz had to undergo a hip operation in Bühl in December 2018, Stöhr was again asked for temporary help, took over the post for the rest of the season and remained there in the series as the only libero in the squad. The versatility brought the original Swabian, born in Rottweil, southwest of Stuttgart, even into the national team – as a Libero. The first invitation to the course came in the summer of 2019, but the following European championship came too early. But he remained in focus, in January 2020 the participation in the Olympic qualification tournament in Berlin beckoned. Surprisingly, however, national coach Andrea Giani persuaded oldie Markus Steuerwald to make a comeback. He then got even more playing time than regular libero Julian Zenger.

In the summer of 2020, when there were only two test internationals against Poland due to Corona, Stöhr was also used – a debut at the same time as Florian Krage. The ex-LüneHüne was also his roommate at the Kienbaum sports school at the time. Despite everything, Stöhr wanted to go back into the external attack. “This is my favorite position. As a sweeper, I don’t feel fully occupied in the long run, especially during training. I just miss the jumps. It’s much, much more fun outside. ”In return, he takes the risk of wasting his chance on the national team. “If that happens, then I have to accept it. Assignments there or courses are a nice addition. But my main focus is on the club, that’s where I earn my bread, so to speak, that’s where I want to develop further. “

For national coach Andrea Giani, Stöhr remained an option as the second libero in the squad, despite the renewed – and mutually agreed – change of position. “He’s probably a fan of mine,” he says with a laugh. He is still on a longlist published by the association for the announced rebuilding in the new Olympic cycle until 2024 and would probably also be in the currently running Nations League, but tore his ankle ligaments in the final phase of last season when he was unhappy twisted and failed for the playoffs. He then used the compulsory break to have old problems fixed with a small knee operation. Now the rehab is running, and the national team, in which other outside attackers alternate as 2nd Libero on the score sheet, he only follows in the stream.

Interesting even with the national coach as a sweeper

Sometimes outside attacker, sometimes sweeper – Stöhr’s career has not been straightforward so far. “I could play anything,” says SVG newcomer number 5 this summer with a smile, “I even played as a diagonal attacker at Bühl’s away game last season in the Gellersenhalle.” The bison won 3: 1, the 2.04-m- Hüne added 9 points when he came onto the field for the fourth set after brief substitutions. The entire season was as changeable as this match for the 2.04-meter man. Outside, the newcomers Niklas Kronthaler and Tomas Lopez made a big impact. Stöhr then delivered after many partial appearances in the winter when Lopez was injured.

“It does a lot of things well, can be used universally, that is interesting for us and can become very important,” says SVG head coach Stefan Hübner, appreciating the versatility. “So far we’ve been lucky that the Libero never failed and we never had to improvise with a player who was good at assuming the game. For example Jordan Ewert. We would have missed him in his regular position. ”Indeed, Tyler Koslowsky has not missed a match in four seasons so far.

But Stöhr is mainly planned for the outside / acceptance position. “He wants to go full throttle and develop further. And there is still potential. He does a lot of things well anyway, only the one outstanding element is missing. But we’ll work on that, ”Hübner has already made clear to him. The player himself is very excited about this work: “This coach is known for improving players. And I have already noticed during the conversations that it fits between us on a human level. I’m looking forward to the SVG and switch confidently, but at least I don’t come just to sit on the bench. When the coach needs me, I’m there, it has always been like that in my career, he can trust that

This means that all personal details at the SVG have now been ticked off, because the coaching team, including the scout Christian Knospe who joined a year ago, and the staff continue to work on a continuation of the success story in the new arena with the same cast.

DVV Cup draw

SVG for the North Region Cup winner

The first peg for the 2021/22 season has been struck, the cup round of 16 has been drawn. The SVG Lüneburg was lucky, got a task that could be solved without any major problems, and in all likelihood with a short journey. Because the opponent in the round of 16 (November 6th or 7th) will be the winner of the Northern Regional Cup.

Last season, due to the corona outbreak, the cup competition only took place in a shortened form with only first division clubs, now it is played again according to the previous mode, i.e. including the eight cup winners of the regions. This results in the following further pairings: Regional winner South – United Volleys Frankfurt, Southwest – TSV Unterhaching, Northwest – Berlin Volleys, Northeast – Giesen Grizzlys, West – powervolleys Düren, winner from Southeast / East – WWK Volleys Herrsching and the only Bundesliga match KW -Bestensee – VfB Friedrichshafen.

The cup winners of the regions are determined in October, only then does the SVG know the opponent, i.e. after the start of the Bundesliga. The quarter-finals are scheduled for November 24th, the semi-finals for December 22nd – although these dates are not yet set in stone, but depending on the international calendar with the European Cup games. The final in Mannheim is scheduled for March 6, 2022.

Nations League

Two tie-break losses

Satisfaction looks different – Germany Libero Julian Zenger – Right Moritz Reichert

The good start fizzled out: after a good result in the first week of the tournament with 6 points from three games, the German men continued their program with two 2: 3 defeats – against opponents who had both had no win until then. The 19:25, 25:23, 25:17, 23:25, 13:15 against Argentina was initially the weakest tournament appearance at 18:25, 25:23, 20:25, 25:22, 13:15 against in the Netherlands there was again a slight increase.

Not much came together against Argentina for a long time. The veteran Christian Fromm and Denys Kaliberda stayed completely outside, Simon Hirsch and Marcus Böhme were only substituted. But as national coach Andrea Giani also exchanged, things only went better for a short time, so that he got really angry in the fourth set with a disastrous intermediate result. The threatening tiebreaker with a 2-1 lead and then the defeat was unstoppable. The best man and most successful scorer with 15 points was middle blocker Tobias Krick.

Against Holland, now again with Fromm, Hirsch and Böhme in the Starting Six, the team struggled again, the aforementioned trio was also substituted early against Linus Weber, Moritz Reichert and Noah Baxpöhler. Ex-LüneHüne Baxpöhler got his first long chance in the tournament after only one short substitution and used it to collect 8 points (3 blocks, 5 attacks). Florian Krage scored even better with 9 points (8 attacks, 1 block). The best scorer was Weber, who only came in the 2nd set with 20 points. Gijs van Solkema did not appear in Holland and Thijs ter Horst (26 points) and Nimir Abdel-Aziz (24), both together in Perugia so far, were unstoppable.

NEWS FROM THE LEAGUE

After Libero Blair Bann, middle blocker Lucas van Berkel from Düren also changes to VfB Friedrichshafen and has signed a one-year contract with the Häflern. Both Canadians are currently taking part in the Nations League and then in the Olympic Games.

The Polish sweeper Adam Kowalski, who has been with the Berlin Volleys since 2019, has extended his contract by one year.

Jordi Ramon Ferragut (soon 22) will be the new outside attacker at the WWK Volleys Herrsching. The Spanish international comes from the first division club CV Teruel.

An outside attacker from Estonia comes, one goes to the Netzhoppers KW-Bestensee: For Karli Allik, whose new target is not yet known, the Brandenburgers have signed Stefan Kaibald (24) from the Estonian master big bank Tartu as his successor. Both are current national players.
