teale: The Mental Health Platform Revolutionizing Support for Employees

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Who ? teale
Quoi ? a mental health platform dedicated to employees

Close to a employee in two said to be in a situation of psychological distress, according to the 12th barometer from the Empreinte Humaine firm with OpinionWay, published at the end of 2023. And it is precisely to fight against this global malaise that Julia Néel Biz, Geoffroy Verzat, Nicolas Merlaud and Gilles Rasigade have founded teale in 2021. Because mental health should no longer be a taboo, a vulnerability that should be hidden at all costs.

“In 2018, I lost a loved one suddenly, it took me months to come back to my senses […] The company struggles to welcome a bereaved employee. At the time, a simple number was set up for mental support… it was insufficient,” Julia Néel Biz, a former student at Essec, tells us. His desire for entrepreneurship came to fruition with the creation of this mental health platform for businesses, teale. Since then, the long Sars-CoV-2 parenthesis has passed: “With the covid crisis we have gained 2 to 3 years of maturity on a subject that was 6 or 7 years late,” defends the entrepreneur. Not to mention that younger generations are starting to de-taboo the subject: not only is mental health everyone’s business, it always has been in reality, but now it is also becoming the business of businesses.

A definite interest for businesses

“Absenteeism, higher stress, more frequent errors than usual, less involvement, etc. “, these are some weak signals that tend to make you think that an employee is going through a bad time. Overall, “behavior that changes, is unusual, such as an employee who is always in a good mood and involved in the company who no longer goes to after work must alert,” explains Julia Néel Biz. Whether personal or professional, an employee’s mental health obviously has a strong impact on their performance and productivity. There are organizations which are convinced that preventing the mental health of employees is, in itself, part of the role of a company. There are others that must still be taken by feelings: the figures! Tell a company that the cost of mental health is 3,000 euros per year per employee, as the figure Julia Néel Biz, and it’s a safe bet that she will grasp the subject quite quickly.

Happy employees are on average 30% more productive within their company, our colleagues at the magazine revealed in early 2023 Point. “More creative too,” adds Julia Néel Biz. Hence the interest of a platform like teale. The mission of the young shoot: how to put technology, data and science at the service of collaborators on an individual level, and of organizations on a collective level?

How does the app work? Julia Néel Biz, co-founder of teale

Concretely, companies that use teale pay a subscription – based on a SaaS model – per employee, the price of which varies depending on the degree of support and the size of the company. The application is therefore free for employees, who can use it on a smartphone or computer, because it is paid for at the company’s expense. Among the support measures offered, among others: sessions supported by a psychologist or a certified coach, or even training for managers in the detection of weak signals. “The objective is really to start from the data that we have available to companies to adapt our offer […] The solution will not necessarily be the same within a company adept at telework compared to another organization which operates 100% face-to-face”, illustrates Julia Néel Biz. For now, teale is preventing the mental health of employees of prestigious clients: Sanofi, Cartier, Air Liquide, for example.

A company that is interested in the mental health of its employees, including purely out of financial interest, is what teale seeks to create in as many structures as possible. This implies a change in our behavior: “A manager would do well to ask this question either”How’s it going ?” which leaves little room for a constructed and argued response, but “how are you today on a scale of 1 to 10?” et ”Hey, why did it drop compared to yesterday?”, if the person is receptive to talking about it of course,” suggests Julia Néel Biz. Another challenge set by the application: that everyone accepts their vulnerabilities! Even better if it starts at the top – putting an end to the myth of the superhero leader – to free all employees. Arthur Sadoun, boss of Publicis, who the revealed suffering from cancer in public is an example to be welcomed to break the taboo of illness in the workplace.

In short, the challenges are numerous for this mental health platform, which has already raised 2 million euros in May 2021, then 10 million euros during a second round of financing last year, notably from ‘Alter Equity and the Digital Venture fund of Bpifrance. A breakthrough that makes you a future European leader in the field.

Mental health according to the World Health Organization (WHO):

A state of well-being that enables everyone to realize their potential, to cope with the normal difficulties of life, to work successfully and productively, and to be able to make a contribution to the community
