Anthony Martial’s injury problems prompted Erik ten Hag to act in the January window.
However, many probably raised their eyebrows when the Manchester United coach then chose to bring in Wout Weghorst on loan. A signing that was successfully completed after the Dutch forward first broke his loan agreement with Besiktas, and was then loaned out again from Burnley.
Oh well.
Nowadays, Weghorst is in place at Old Trafford where he has quickly become a crowd favorite thanks to the hard work he puts in every game. However, the 30-year-old admits that there is one thing that bothers him.
– Sometimes I think I’m doing very well – but then I remember that I’ve only scored two goals, says Weghorst according to the Daily Mirror.
– That’s also how everyone sees football. I try to teach my kids to focus on things other than just goals, and the same goes for me. But I prefer to see the positive.
He continues:
– To score in front of our home supporters was a big moment for me. You can only understand how big a club Manchester United is when you are part of it. It is an absolute top club, with all the attention it gets from outside. You have to find a way to deal with it and I manage to be myself in that environment.
Wout Weghorst’s loan deal with Manchester United expires this summer, and then the plan is for him to return to Burnley, with whom he has a contract until 2025.
