Free for children, the saliva tests deployed at school are not totally free for teachers, who will have to pay one euro, or the remainder charged by Medicare. This sum will be taken from their next reimbursement of medical expenses, explains the Ministry of National Education to Agence France-Presse (AFP), confirming information from Franceinfo.
For the main teachers’ unions contacted by AFP, this participation is “Inappropriate and contemptuous”, at a time when the national education system is making these tests a pillar of its strategy. In the field, teachers can benefit from these saliva tests when teams from laboratories visit schools. This type of test is primarily intended for primary school students and teachers.
Volunteering
The tests are not compulsory for teachers, which the ministry did not fail to stress: “Saliva test screening is voluntary and national education personnel have the option of requesting a nasopharyngeal antigen test, which is fully carried out and paid for by national education. ” However, unlike the latter type of test, the salivary “Are carried out within the framework of the rules applicable to the health insurance scheme, which reimburses the medical biology laboratories carrying out the analyzes”, specifies the Rue de Grenelle, which adds that these tests “Cost more”. The Ministry of National Education nevertheless assures us that it is looking for a solution.
“We raised this out-of-charge issue with the ministry three weeks ago, and at that point we were told things would be sorted out. And then nothing, we have no return ”, regrets Guislaine David, general secretary of SNUipp-FSU, the first union in primary education. According to her, “The ministries of education and health are simply passing the buck. This further shows to what extent this saliva testing campaign was not seriously anticipated ”.
At this stage, the ministry does not give precise figures on the number of saliva tests carried out in schools. Jean-Michel Blanquer had mentioned at the end of last week 150,000 tests per week, recalling that the objective is to reach 300,000 tests this week.
