teachers’ unions denounce staff reductions

They met on Friday March 5 in the morning in front of the direction of the departmental services of the National Education of the Gironde to express their dissatisfaction.

Teachers want change. Friday, five of them, all unionized, were gathered in front of the headquarters of the departmental services department of National Education of the Gironde (DSDEN 33). The opportunity to denounce in particular the reduction in the number of teaching positions in the department for the start of the 2021 school year. “We are worried because this will lead to an overload of work for the teachers, and less support for the students”, details Nathalie Lacuey, member of SNEP-FSU.

During the next school year, the Gironde should thus experience in its general, technological and professional colleges and high schools, an arrival of 1,643 more students, while at the same time the number of lessons would decrease by 55 positions. A new college will also open its doors in Marsas in 2021, but without this resulting in the recruitment of professors.

A revaluation requested

“We have the feeling that no effort is being made on the part of the National Education, that the only priority is to reduce public spending, it is very burdensome and we are angry”, adds Catherine Dudes, professor. of history-geography at the Lycée Montaigne, and departmental co-secretary of SNES-FSU. For her, the number of students per class should be capped at 25 in colleges and 30 in high schools, which is not the case at present.

The teachers also took advantage of this meeting to review their working conditions, and demand, for example, the thaw of the index point and an increase in their overtime. “Unfortunately we are not heard,” laments Catherine Dudes. After their passage in front of the DSDEN, the professors deployed in the city to stick posters on the public signs and in front of the rectorate. They have already planned to meet at the bottom of DSDEN 33 next week (Wednesday March 10), for a larger event.
