The New York State Master Teacher Program fosters a collaboration among selected outstanding STEM educators, through which they develop expertise in the areas of content, pedagogy, and the families and communities of students. Their efforts engage talented students and insert them into careers in STEM fields.
Last month, Governor Hochul announced the selection of 230 educators to join the Master Teacher Program. STEM educators were recognized not only for their work within the classroom, but also for their involvement in their districts, local communities, and professional associations.
In nine regions of the state, the Master Teacher Program takes place on a SUNY campus, aligned with New York’s economic development regions, to build on campus faculty expertise and existing educator preparation programs.

Once selected in the Master Teacher Program, educators obtain:
- They receive an annual stipend of $15,000.
- They participate in peer-to-peer mentoring and intensive content-oriented professional development opportunities throughout the academic year.
- They work closely with pre-service and early-career teachers to foster a supportive environment for the next generation of STEM teachers.
- They attend required regional meetings at their SUNY campus, participate in and lead several professional development sessions each year.
“New York’s teachers are the life force behind our state’s leading education system, and it’s critical that teachers be given opportunities to grow within their field,” Governor Hochul said. “I am incredibly proud of the teachers we have in our state, who demonstrate time and time again that they will go above and beyond the scope of their responsibilities to do what is right for our children. The talented teachers in the New York State Master Teacher Program of 2022 will be crucial in developing New York’s future leaders, and I encourage all who are interested to apply.”
