This is stated in the congratulatory address by the Chairman of the National Assembly of the BSP, Mihail Mikov, on the occasion of May 24 – the Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture and of Slavic Writing.
According to him, even today, this holiday reminds us that the true leaders of our nation have always been teachers, people of culture and science. “We, as a society, owe them a deep bow and are obliged not only on the days of the holidays, but also in our everyday life, to do everything in our power to raise their work to its rightful height,” he wrote.
Mikov expresses the concern of the socialists about the future of the Bulgarian school. He explains that the draft for a new law on pre-school and school education, submitted by GERB, is being discussed in the National Assembly, which destroys those traditions of Bulgarian education that guarantee access to education and equality for Bulgarian children, regardless of the financial status of the parents. He warns that these legislative decisions will condemn our nation to an even more serious spiritual crisis, illiteracy and hopelessness and will deepen economic differentiation in society, regional differences. “We are worried that the school – already “by law” – will produce inequalities instead of helping to overcome them,” the address also says. Mikov expresses hope that in the further discussion of the law, it will be the teachers who will be defenders of the national interest.
“Without your activity and professional courage, the Bulgarian school will not have a promising future,” he added. Mikov assures that BSP and PG “BSP LEFT BULGARIA” will continue to uphold the understanding that education is a priority of state policy; they will do what is necessary for Bulgarian politics to rely more on knowledge, to create conditions for development, conditions for the well-being of all Bulgarian citizens.
