Comondú, Baja California Sur (BCS). A citizen complaint was made known after the clinic of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) in Constitution City, A teacher, who suffers from cancer, would have been denied a blood transfusion. According to the patient’s family, they owe 2 units, because their donors did not pass the tests; However, they refuse to pay attention to him and transfer him to a hospital. Peace.
“My husband is diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. […] The emergency doctor already checked him, they took him to do the analysis, the biometry to check if the hemoglobin was low, and well it was a little late […] And around 2 in the afternoon he comes by and says that, well, he does have time, but that he could only put one bag of blood. So, Later she comes and tells us that the doctor in charge of the module, because there is no Blood Bank here, that she did not authorize because 2 bags of blood are owed”, explained the wife of Professor German “N”.
Likewise, the woman said that, at 6:00 a.m. yesterday (January 20), her husband began to feel unwell and was transferred to the ISSSTE emergency area; However, when they arrived, around 6:30 a.m., they did not find any doctor, only a nurse who took his vital signs, so they decided to go in to check if the doctors were busy, and that is when begins his entire “journey.”
“Then this morning, about 6 a.m., he felt sick; So we decided to come to the clinic and we arrived at approximately 6:30 and so, well, we went to the Emergency Room, we went to the Healing Area, the nurse there was very kind, he took the vital signs so that I could later enter the emergency room. We knocked, there was no one; We waited, we asked the guard again and he said that they were busy, but we couldn’t hear anything in the office, so we decided to go in to confirm if it was true and no, well no, there was no one, which, well, it is obvious that understand that, at that time, if they have time, they rest for a moment, but well, then that’s how it all started,” he mentioned.
He commented that they have always attended to donate, even their family members, friends, even the teacher’s students have approached, but they have not been able to pass the donation exams, which is why they have not been able to complete the units they are owing.
“We have come to… donors, family members, friends, acquaintances have come, even Tecnológico students have come to donate blood. 3 came in the month of November, but it is very difficult for them all to remain. Unfortunately, those 3 students were not able to donate, and we all know that donating blood is difficult.
However, when she asked the internist to transfer her husband to the city of Peacethe coordinator, told him that they cannot withdraw, and that the professor will remain hospitalized until next Monday (January 22), until more people arrive to donate and subsequently give him the blood transfusion.
“Well, I tell the internist that they then transfer him to the city of La Paz, that there is a Blood Bank there and as has happened to us before, the same thing happened 4 years ago and we have no difficulty there. […] Well, the coordinator, Dr. Cruz, tells me because I tell her that my husband cannot go home like this, and we were also in contact with the doctor, the hematologist, and he told him that at least he wanted to have him transfused. 2 bags of blood. Then she tells me no, the coordinator, Dr. Cruz, is going to stay hospitalized until Monday, so that people can come and donate, and then give her the blood transfusion,” she said.
Given this, the woman said that, although more people go to donate, that does not assure them that they will pass the corresponding tests to be able to donate. Furthermore, she pointed out that the same doctor let her know that she did not authorize the transfusion, and that they could only give her one bag, but she mentions that, if they give her only one, she will still present the problem, promptly.
On the other hand, the teacher’s spouse said that, since November (2023), her husband needed blood transfusions, and although the ISSSTE of Constitution City They do not have a Blood Bank, the doctor who treats them in La Paz told them that they do have the units, he even supported them so that, through Social Security, they could perform the transfusion, but unfortunately they have always had problems.
“Since approximately November, he began to require blood transfusions and for this reason we have to go, we have already gone on 3 occasions; So this is the fourth time and every time we have come we have had problems with the transfusion and in reality we know that there is no blood bank here, but the hematologist from the city of La Paz who treats him has told us that there is There is blood and even on one occasion it was obtained, through Social Security,” he noted.
Finally, she mentioned that they no longer want to be in that clinic, since they are receiving inhumane treatment, and although they have stabilized her husband, they are only treating his symptoms, and, in addition, he has to undergo chemotherapy the following Tuesday, and For this you need to have hemoglobin at the levels required for you to undergo the treatment.
“I no longer want to be going through this type of, well, situation here in this clinic and that’s it, well it seems inhuman to me too and well, I don’t even want a serum from here, the truth is […] He has an appointment on Tuesday in the city of La Paz with the specialist and, well, he even has the order for chemotherapy, the treatment is already ready to be given, but for the same reason he needs to keep his hemoglobin elevated, because to the level that is needs,” he explained.
