The music teacher of a school in the municipality of Riosucio in syrups teaches young people who have been hit by the phenomenon of violence in Colombia.
It is about Tomás Trejos, a teacher who through music builds and vindicates the painful past of his childhood and of the community.
Tomás was raised in the municipality of Riosucio. His childhood was marked by violence because he lost several relatives in the midst of persecution and the constant threat that existed at that time.
“Those were very tough times. It always scared me to go out on the street, but thanks to the help of my parents and my brothers we managed to get ahead because we always had many threats,” said Luz Helena Londoño, mother of Tomás.
“My childhood was a bit complicated because we were victims of violence in the early nineties. In my family several people were murdered, my father and several uncles were murdered, so that had a great impact on my life and it was always a bit traumatic, “added Trejos.

The piano, a tool to heal
The most precious legacy that his father left him was a small piano, the same one in which he found a cure to heal and move on.
“I am very grateful for that last gift because it was the one that gave me the first pins to be in this world of music,” he added.
Tomás leads a symphonic band and a choir, with which he has participated in departmental student band contests working on the sensitivity of young people who have been victims of violence.
“Through good musical habits, the idea is to change mentalities and thoughts through music, transform this society through music and make them more sensitive people,” said Trejos.
Teach, serve through music, a story exclusively reserved for the brave.
