A history teacher beheaded by an unknown person on French on Friday (16/10), local time. The middle school teacher held a discussion about cartoons Nabi Muhammad with his students.
The terrible incident occurred in the small town of Conflans-Sainte-Honorin in the Val d’Oise region, northwest of Paris. The perpetrator was shot dead by police about 600 meters from the location of the beheading.
Reported The Associated Press, The French Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into the killings by considering the alleged terrorist motive behind the attack.
A police officer told AP he described the perpetrators armed with knives and airsoft guns. Prior to the shooting, the perpetrators did not respond to a request to lay down their arms and act threateningly,
The official revealed that the teacher received threats after opening a discussion regarding caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad at school.
“The teacher was threatened after opening a discussion ‘to argue’ about the cartoon (of the Prophet Muhammad) about 10 days ago,” said the police official, who was not identified because he was not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation.
The police official said the parents had complained against the teacher. However, the police confirmed that the perpetrator did not have children attending school there. The identity of the perpetrator himself was not published.
“We didn’t think this would happen,” Conflans resident Remi Tell told local TV station CNews TV.
Tell thinks his city is a city of peace.
Reported AFP, a police source said the perpetrator shouted “Allahu Akbar” when confronted.
On the same day, President Emmanuel Macron visited the scene of the incident. He called the action an “Islamic terrorist attack”.
He also guaranteed that France was ready to defend the teachers. Moreover, he declared “obscurantism will not prevail.”
